Photo of the Year
2003 was a tumultuous year, with a lot of memorable images along the way. I think this one from Iraq, combining the toughness and compassion of the American military in action, is the one that best summed up a year when the war for freedom became a hot war of action, not just a cold war of reactive gestures and posturing. Many thanks to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces.
