A senior member of al-Qaida has told U.S. security authorities that the terrorist network came up with a plan to carry out attacks targeting the 2002 World Cup soccer matches held in Japan, informed sources in Tokyo said Saturday.Posted by Alan at February 14, 2004 06:19 PMThe United States has told Japanese authorities of the information provided by Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the No. 3 official of the terrorist organization who is believed to have played a major role related to the attacks on the United States on Sept 11, 2001, the sources said.
Mohammed said the plan for attacks in Japan was never realized because al-Qaida did not have a network in Japan.
